Where do I find my setting's records of Child Development in Famly?
'Child Development' in Famly is where you can get an overview of child development at your setting. To find your 'Child Development':
Simply log in to Famly, and click on the 'Apps' section, then select the 'Child Development' app.
โ
To access Child Development, you'll need the 'Manage Observations' permission enabled, or the 'Review and send observations' permission.
Overview
This page shows you all the recent observations made in your setting, in chronological order (depending on your role, what you see here may differ.) As a manager, this page is where you can review observations, request changes, and send them to parents.
Filter Observations
When viewing all observations you can use the filters on the left-hand side to filter by:
Type
Date range
Observation status
Author
Key person
Review an Observation
To review an observation, start by clicking on it. When reviewing an observation you can:
Edit the observation yourself
Add links to the curriculum you use, if you're not using the new version of Child Development, in line with the EYFS 2021
You can add a comment on the box to the left-hand side, then click the paper aeroplane icon to send it. Finally, click 'Request changes' to send the observation back to the original author
Change the author (take ownership of the observation)
When you are happy with it to be sent to the parents and added to the journey, click 'Approve and Send'.
Next Steps or What's Next?
You can also view the planned 'Next Steps', or 'What's Next?' of children in your setting in 'Child Development'. This is a list of the 'Next Steps' or 'What's Next?' entered on individual children's Observations. You can filter the list of 'Next Steps' or 'What's Next?' by:
Child
Key person
Room
A date the next steps were made after (to ensure the next steps are up-to-date
You can also 'Archive' next steps or or 'What's Next?'s from here, as they become no longer relevant.
Progress Report
Statement-based tracking
If you have moved over to the new version of Child Development in line with the new EYFS for 2021, you will no longer be using statement-based tracking. This means that you will have access to another type of development report.
The default view of the progress report is by Statement-based tracking- this is a summary of each child's development based on the statements (the links to the curriculum) that have been connected to their observations. Choose your 'as of' date, to see all observations posted after the specified date. You can filter by:
Key person
Tags
Rooms
Gender
Age
When in this view you can click into each box to see the 'Journey Details'. Here you will be able to see:
the title
the statements (links to the curriculum you use in your setting- the above example is the EYFS) that have been connected to the observations made of the child
the age band (in the curriculum) they were connected to
the date the curriculum statements were linked
The Age Band that is shown is the youngest curriculum Age Band the child is working in.
Areas that the children are 2 or more age bands 'ahead of expected progress' will be shaded in dark blue, 1 age band ahead will be in light blue. Those that are 2 or more age bands 'behind' will be shaded in red and 1 age band behind will be in light red.
Refinement-based Tracking
If you have moved over to the new version of Child Development in line with the new EYFS for 2021, you will no longer be using this assessment format. You will have access to another type of assessment report.
โ
You can also view the progress of children in your setting by Refinement-based tracking - this takes Age band refinement records (normally done in assessments) into account only and reports whether children are:
Emerging (grey)
Developing (light green)
Secure (dark green)
You can view refinement-based tracking:
As of a certain date
As a comparison between certain dates,
As progress since the initial baseline (the first assessment or observation recorded in which you chose emerging, developing or secure for any age band.)
Compare Cohorts
If you have moved over to the new version of Child Development in line with the new EYFS for 2021, you will no longer be using statement-based or refinement-based tracking. You will have access to another type of assessment report.
You can compare cohorts in 'Child Development' in Famly, based on statement-based tracking or refinement-based tracking, and "progress as of" a certain date.
On the top-right you can add cohorts to compare and see the proportion of children that are 'below', 'on track', 'above' expected progress, as well as the children that in need of observations. You can further refine the data at the top left of the graph, where you can choose to see only those children that are 'below', 'on track', or 'above' expected progress. In the top right of the graph you can select if you want to see all areas of learning or only the primary areas.
For statement-based tracking, the graph will show the percentage of children relative to the options you've chose.
For refinement-based tracking the graph will show average progress points by cohort (movement between emerging, developing and secure).
If you click on a certain bar on the graph you are taken to the progress report filtered for the selected cohorts.
Tally
The 'Tally' section of 'Child Development' counts the observations made about the children in your setting. You can choose 'statement-based' (links to the curriculum you use) or 'refinement-based' (by expected age-bands in the curriculum you use) observations, and the period of time you'd like to view. Again, you can also filter by:
Key person
Tags
Rooms
Gender
Age
You can also choose to show only children who have no observations in the specified period.
