Reporting and Blocking Users

Following a Google initiative to improve internet security, it's now possible to block and report user-generated content in Famly.

What Can Be Reported?

The following content can be reported:

  • Posts in the news feed

  • Observations and assessments in the news feed and in a child's learning journey

  • Comments on posts or observations

  • Messages in a conversation

  • Other users (from within a conversation only)

When something is reported, any staff with the Manage reports of inappropriate content permission will receive a notification taking them to an overview of all user reports. Reported content is shown in one place to make it easier for relevant staff to investigate each report without it getting lost among other notifications.

Blocking Other Users

Users can block other users from within the conversation module. Blocking only affects the creation of new conversations between those two users.

To block a user:

  • Navigate to your message thread with them

  • Click the three dots next to their name

  • Select Block, then confirm by clicking Block user in the pop-up

Once blocked, neither user can start a new conversation with the other. However, both users can still message each other in group chats, and it's possible to leave most conversations from the Actions menu.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Blocking does not stop a third party from starting a new conversation between two users who have blocked each other

  • Blocking does not stop someone from receiving messages from a blocked user through their team inbox

  • You can only leave a conversation in which you are a direct participant. You cannot leave a conversation you only have access to through your team inbox

Unblocking Users

Users can unblock anyone they have blocked by going to My account, then Notifications and messaging.
