The Curriculum for Excellence

The curriculum for Excellence is Scotland's curriculum. There are eight areas of learning:

  • Expressive arts

  • Health and wellbeing

  • Languages (including English, Gaidhlig, Gaelic learners and modern languages)

  • Mathematics

  • Religious and moral education

  • Sciences

  • Social studies

  • Technologies

Literacy, numeracy, and health and wellbeing are recognised as being particularly important.

GIRFEC- Getting It Right For Every Child

GIRFEC is an initiative in Scotland to support families in making sure children and young people can receive the right help, at the right time, from the right people. The aim is to help them to grow up feeling loved, safe and respected so that they can realise their full potential. GIRFEC asserts that at home, in school, or in the wider community, every child and young person should be:

  • Safe

  • Healthy

  • Achieving

  • Nurtured

  • Active

  • Respected

  • Responsible

  • Included

You can make observations in Famly and link them to the GIRFEC Wellbeing Indicators.

Realising the Ambition

Realising the Ambition is the updated version of the document Building the Ambition. It presents key information about child development including the interactions and experiences we must provide children to facilitate their growth.

For the Learning Areas, we have drawn inspiration from Realising the Ambition “pocket cards” that were sent to us by customers to show what they like and, in some cases, are already using.

These Learning Areas are:

  • Wellbeing

  • Movement and coordination

  • Confidence

  • Literacy learning

  • Numeracy and mathematical learning

As always, we are open to feedback! If you'd like to share some with us please send an email to support@famly.co with your thoughts.
